Chi-Ki Advanced Diploma
Introduction: This course is based on the Japanese tradition of Shugendo
Everyone knows about Reiki. That it is a way of healing developed by Mikao Usui. However, it is not widely known who Mikao Usui was, his true history, philosophy and origins of his Reiki system. A simple Google search soon shows that Mikao Usui was not a Christian nor did he attend any American universities. He was in fact a Shugendo practitioner. This is shown as his memorial stone states that he practiced kushu shinren, which is an aspect of Shugendo training. It also states that he practised divination, another aspect of Shugendo practise.
All things on this planet and universe are evolving, that said, it now seems right to us that Reiki, which facilitates such wonderful healing experiences should now itself, be healed and made whole by being reunited with its eclectic origins and shamanic background.
Shugendo is the way to develop inner power. Shugendo is a mountain based spiritual practice not a religion. It does not have a founder nor does it have sacred scriptures or propaganda.
Shugendō (also spelled Shugendo) can be loosely translated as "path of training to achieve spiritual powers." Shugendō is an important Kami-Buddha combinatory sect that blends pre-Buddhist mountain worship, (the idea that mountains are the home of the dead and of agricultural spirits), shamanistic beliefs, animism, Chinese Ying-Yang mysticism and Taoism in the hope of achieving magical skills, medical powers, and long life. Practitioners are called Shugenja or Shugyōsha.
The Gods and Goddesses are called kami. They are sacred spirits which are connected to nature such as wind, rain, mountains, trees, rivers and fertility. It is believed that people become kami after they die and are revered by their families as ancestral kami. The Sun Goddess Amaterasu is considered Shinto's most important kami. En no Gyōja, is recognized as the father of Shugendō. His posthumous title is Shinben Daibosatu meaning Miraculous Great Bodhisattva, a title bestowed upon him in 1799 by Emperor Kōkaku.
The emphasis of our course is on personal experience and highlights that the true nature of spirituality is a unique and individual experience between the person and the universe. Therefore, the workshops are non-competitive and non-judgemental as no two persons' experience can be compared. Thus this diploma is suitable for both complete beginners and experienced practitioners.
We recommend that people who are considering studying with us read our philosophy page as these values are the foundation for all our courses.
In short our Spiritual philosophy is based on the concept that our ancestors, spirit guides and deities will help us when they perceive that we are striving to achieve our full potential and personal enlightenment. We define enlightenment as:
A shift in consciousness, where truth is discovered through personal experience, which is beyond all concepts and beliefs. This results in the recognition of fundamental oneness with all of existence and that your true nature is whole, unbounded and everlasting. For this to occur we consider that six core conditions are necessary (see our spiritual philosophy page):
Unconditional Positive Regard
Aims and Objectives
To explore the six core conditions and how they impact our lives.
To improve the student's experience of personal power and self-respect, leading to improved confidence and emotional wellbeing. We consider this essential for spiritual development.
To facilitate participants to have personal experiences of connecting with ancestors, spirit guides, deities, angels and the spirits that reside in all things. The purpose is one of healing, guidance, experience, self-empowerment and wisdom.
To enable participants to have experiences of being in harmony and oneness with the universe.
To enable students to experience journeying to different dimensions.
To facilitate students in enhancing their psychic abilities.
This may vary according to the needs of the group.
Each module runs for 3 hours one day a week for several weeks. This includes a 30-minute tea break. The tea break is an important part of the course. It allows for social interaction between participants and gives students the opportunity to talk informally to the facilitator.
These courses are designed to be facilitated rather than taught. Therefore, class discussion is given priority and sufficient time allowed for this activity.
